Sound System Geographies

Sound System Geographies is a production-based project conceived by DJ Lynnée Denise. It concerns questions about music, the afterlife of slavery, and Diasporic spatiality. For this project, Denise contemplates the importance of how people's forced movement and enslavement are coupled with the traveling of sound within former Dutch colonial land and waterscapes. A project that grew from a one-time project with collaborator Dr. Chandra Frank (Sound System Ecologies), Sound System Geographies explores the Dutch colonial imprint through local and international listening sessions, performative lectures, and film screenings curated by DJ Lynnée Denise
