In his epic text Sonic Bodies: Systems, Performance Techniques and Ways of Knowing (2011), Julien Henriques offers a unique way to launch an “auditory investigation.” Adapting his work, Lynnée Denise engages in a methodology and pedagogical practice by understanding that “the term sound systems in the plural play both theoretically—as a system or framework of understanding and practically– as the phenomena of the auditory vibration themselves and a reggae sound system or institution for sounding.”

Listening Sessions
Listening sessions allow for an audience to reposition how they understand the social significance of DJ culture. By drawing on decades of archival work and an investigative practice, listening sessions are inspired by the work of Pauline Oliveros who reminds us that, “We listen in order to interpret our world and experience meaning of it.” In our sessions, listening is accompanied by the historical and social context that defines and designs what we hear.
