DJ Scholarship formalized during my first visit to Johannesburg in 2013 when I produced the first installment of a four-part mixtape series titled House Music in Post-Apartheid South Africa. Unique to DJ culture, I wrote liner notes for the mixtape that reflected my time in South Africa, visiting multiple cities—Durban, Pretoria, East London—in search of electronic music. Upon learning the first mix was downloaded nearly 20,000 times, I decided to root some of my work in South Africa's music history.
